At the start of the 1998/99 season, ALS Publications started its second fanzine, the ridiculously titled Sex & Chocolate Aren’t as Good as Football. At the time our website was in its infancy and we were being inundated with enough contributions to fill A Love Supreme several times over.
During its first season in print the stadium was packed out every week, we walked the league and broke all records en route for being mint and our matchday sellers stood outside football grounds all over the country making people smile by shouting: “Sex & Chocolate only £1.” S&C lasted 37 issues; and was last on sale before our final Premiership game against Arsenal in the 2002/03 season, when we broke all records for being crap.
In between Sex and Chocolate was funny, hard-hitting and occasionally brilliant. Often in the shadow of its big brother, A Love Supreme, during its time S&C came second in the Fanzine of the Year awards, but as ever ALS stole its thunder and came first.
S&C was withdrawn so we could publish A Love Supreme more often and also concentrate on a different media, our website. By doing this we could publish more fan literature free on www.a-love-supreme.com |
