Burnout Dominator is Electronic Arts way of saying thank you for being such good customers to the Burnout series. The series has mixed in and mixed out with plenty of Burnout features over recent years.
Even though it isn’t exactly a relative to the series, with Burnout 5 currently in development for the PS3 and Xbox 360, it takes bits and bobs of the driving mechanics and features from the past to bring them together in a new unique way.
The game play is unsurprisingly fast-paced and exciting with interesting recombination of modes and features from previous games. So far so good I thought. The key to the Burnout series has and always will revolve around driving around dangerously like a maniac. The more misdemeanours on the road you have, the more boosts you receive. It is a game made for the road ragers out there.
The events in Dominator are exactly what you’d expect to see from Burnout games, the races are new and give you a score readout for which you gain points by driving dangerously. Despite all the newness (if that’s a word) circulating around this game, the producers have lost touch of my favourite aspect of Burnout. There isn’t any crash mode in Dominator which is personally devastating but like they say, life goes on. Don’t worry I’ll be fine.
Apparently the game is more impressive on the PSP than it is on the PS2, I can only vouch for the PS2 and to be honest I was happy with the outcome. I tend to have a habit of constantly buying football games no matter what, they will always remain my preferred choice but I think it is a testament to the Burnout series that I constantly find myself with a copy in my hand.
Overall it’s a good game, nothing less than what you’d expect from such an established game on the shop shelf and I wouldn’t begrudge anyone who went out and got a copy. However I wouldn’t condemn anyone who decided to hold on until Burnout 5. In all honesty the decision is up to you, just don’t come crying to me if you get it wrong.
